TCDD ANKARA-SIVAS HIGH SPEED TRAIN PROJECT

The necessity of the construction of the 15m height railway embankment by rolled compacted layers due to stability problems was removed by improving the soil with Impact® elements. At the same time, it was provided that the consolidation settlements, which exceed the acceptable limits in terms of time and magnitude were completed within the construction schedule and permissible limits. Additionally, piers were installed to mitigate the potential for liquefaction at the site.

DESCRIPTION

The project consist of an embankment 1V:2H in slope and 11m to 15.5m heights.

SUBSURFACE CONDITIONS

The soil foundation indicates the presence of medium stiff to stiff clay (CL-CH) to the depth of 12m underlain by stiff to very stiff clay (CL-CH) to the maximum explored depth of 27m. Some parts consist of clayey sand-sandy clay layers. Groundwater was encountered during soil exploration 5m below ground surface level.

IMPACT SOLUTION

As a foundation improvement, 165,135 meters Impact® elements with shaft lenghts ranging from 8m to 17m, were installed with square spacing of 1.3m to 1.9m on center beneath the embankment.
