GURIS GEOTHERMAL POWER PLANT PROJECT
To satisfy the liquefaction mitigation and the settlement criteria which is in the order of milimeters, the Impact® system was selected providing significant cost savings compared with other deep foundation solutions. The factor of safety against liquefaction potential is increased to a value of 1.2 which is judged to be acceptable and the amount of excessive settlement is limitted by improving the soil with rigid Impact® elements.
Project facilities are composed of different structures with foundation stress varying in the range 70 kPa to 105 kPa. Acceptable long term settlement values for each structural unit is declared to be in the range of 7mm to 25mm.
The soil profile is a fill with a thickness of 0.3-0.5m over medium stiff to stiff silty clay to the depth of 18m over stiff to very stiff silty clay to the depth of 25m with embedded loose to medium dense clayey, gravelly sand / clayey gravel layers. Groundwater has been encountered at 1.7m below the existing ground surface during the geotechnical exploration.
A total of 181,152 meters Impact® elements were installed in a square grid spaced between 1.7m and 2.6m and the shaft length was 17m.
