FIRAT YAPI SILO FOUNDATIONS

Impact® elements were used to improve and reinforce the soil which shows excessive settlements beneath the silo loads. The expected excessive settlements and consolidation times were reduced 7 and 25 times, respectively by Geopier Impact® ground improvement solution at the site.

DESCRIPTION

10 grain silos with a diameter of 12m and height of 14.3m are supported with mat foundations.

SUBSURFACE CONDITIONS

The soil formation beneath the foundation of the silo building is compressible to a depth of 6m-10.5m. It indicates the presence of medium stiff to stiff gravelly, silty clay (CL) underlain by hard sandy, silty clay to the maximum explored depth of 15m. Groundwater was observed at a depth of 1.2m.

IMPACT SOLUTION

The consolidation settlements which are estimated to be 15cm without soil improvement were reduced to 2cm with soil improvement with Impact® system. A total of 6,135 meters Impact® elements with a triangular grid spaced 1.6m and a depth of 6m below the mat were installed to support silos.
